What brand and type of bicycle do you have?
I ride a KHS Urban Xcel.

Why do you ride?
I ride daily because I get impatient with the bus, it's faster than walking, and it's fun.

Where do you ride?
I ride every day to work, and sometimes to my kid's school, or to do errands.

What's the best thing that happened to you while riding?
Fun bike trips (including in China in the 1980s), doing Seattle to Portland (I look forward to doing it with my kids in a few years), doing the bike portion of a triathlon relay with my wife, and being outside every day.

What brand and type of bicycle do you have?
My bikes are a Soma Smoothie ES and a Jamis Coda.

Why do you ride?
I ride because it's fun.

Where do you ride?
I ride for transportation all over Seattle. Sometimes I get out of town for purely recreational rides.

What's the best thing that happened to you while riding?
So many wonderful things have happened while riding my bicycle. I suppose the best is that I have connected with my city and the people in it in ways I never could have from inside a car or bus.

What brand and type of bicycle do you have?
I ride a Larry vs. Harry Bullitt "Clockwork" with my son. Custom build by G&O Family Cyclery.

Why do you ride?
I ride to stay in shape, have fun with my son and help the planet a little bit.

Where do you ride?
I ride all over the city but mostly north and central Seattle.

What's the best thing that happened to you while riding?
The best thing that's happened while riding is finishing the Disaster Relief Trials with my son this year. It's the furthest I've ever biked with him and I wasn't sure I would make it!

What brand and type of bicycle do you have?
2014 Cannondale CAAD 10.

Why do you ride?
Riding my bike is a great way to explore and see all of Seattle, and it's also great for the environment and my health!

Where do you ride?
Riding to work, but my favorite route is up the Burke-Gilman and beyond!

What's the best thing that happened to you while riding?
Probably this year's Cranksgiving. Being able to give back to a community by biking and shopping at local grocery stores was really special. This was my first time doing it, and I am looking forward to it again next year!

What brand and type of bicycle do you have?
My bike is a custom fixed gear built on a Scattante ssr frame built frame up by myself.

Why do you ride?
I ride for a vast number of reasons but not one specifically. Its just a passion only bikers know.

Where do you ride?
I ride my bike anywhere from Burien to Shoreline and everywhere in between. I average 15 miles of riding daily.

What's the best thing that happened to you while riding?
Best thing that's happened to me while riding my bike? That's a tough one but I'd have to say just the feeling of freedom.

What brand and type of bicycle do you have?
I ride a Trek mountain bike. I'm not sure what model...

Why do you ride?
After losing my car I needed a way to get to the transit station and Sounder station. Living in Pierce County the transit options are awful and the only way to get to the buses or train I need is to ride.

Where do you ride?
I ride all over Tacoma, Lakewood, University Place, and Seattle.

What's the best thing that happened to you while riding?
The best thing that has happened from/during riding my bike is becoming healthy! I have lost over 40lbs in the last 2 years and it's still falling off! When ever I am in a down mood about having to ride (like in the rain) I just remind myself that I am getting exercise and maintaining a healthier life style.

What brand and type of bicycle do you have?
I ride a Trek FX7600 hybrid—I think it’s about 10 years old now, but I get it tuned up regularly at Back Alley Bike Repair.

Why do you ride?
I ride my bike because I enjoy getting exercise while going where I need to go anyway.

Where do you ride?
I ride to ST Light Rail almost every morning, and many evenings I ride the 9 miles back home after work.  I also ride recreationally on weekends.

What's the best thing that happened to you while riding?
The best thing that happened to me while riding my bicycle was realizing I can go anywhere a car can, without all the hassle.

Heidi

What brand and type of bicycle do you have?
I ride a K2 Breeze - it's made for comfort not speed, kind of like me.

Why do you ride?
I ride for fitness in my daily commute and it's just a really good way to get lost in your thoughts as you ride along a bike path.

Where do you ride?
I mostly ride during my commute between Seattle and Kent, combined with the train. Riding in traffic makes me extremely nervous after I was rear-ended by a car a couple of years ago.

What's the best thing that happened to you while riding?
I often ride along the Interurban or Green River trails and will see all manner of wildlife - otters swimming in the river, coyotes trotting along the beside me close to the trail - it's magical to be in an urban environment and yet be so close to nature in these spaces.

Daniel

Daniel at International District/Chinatown Station
What brand and type of bicycle do you have?
One of the first all aluminum Treks from the '80's.

Why do you ride?
Driving in traffic (I-90) is the worst. Parking costs $20/day. I sleep better when I exercise. Biking is a great way to slow down and connect with neighborhoods and neighbors. Philosophically I want to be part of the solution and advocate for safer/better infrastructure and culture to support cycling. This won't get better by not actually doing it!

Where do you ride?
Usually I commute from the Central District to Bellevue and back or just for errands and adventures around town. On weekends I love longer rides and occasional bike/camping.

What's the best thing that happened to you while riding?
Seeing coworkers start riding their bikes too!
Bonus: here's a blog post I wrote about biking in Seattle:
