A powerful memory that involves a bike trip was when I was a tween living outside Montreal my friend and I rode our bikes along the lakeshore to downtown Montreal and smoked cigarettes outside Leonard Cohen’s house. He didn’t come out or anything and in retrospect I’m not sure he was even home.

What brand and type of bicycle do you have?
I ride a 1965 Bianchi ‘Pista’ bike outfitted with modern, lightweight clincher rims and tires.  Everything else is original or of the era.  I’ve owned and ridden this bike since I was 18 years old.

I ride my bike because it is fun, feels great while riding it, and I feel great after I arrive at my destination.

Where do you ride?
Mostly, I ride my bike to work, which means from an undisclosed location nearby the Fauntleroy Ferry Terminal in West Seattle to Union Station, where I tie it up at the watering trough to loaf while I mine salt underground during the daylight hours—wouldn’t want to risk getting sunburned!

What's the best thing that happened to you while riding?
The best thing that’s happened to me while riding my bike…is a hard question to answer.  There have been so many wonderful sights, such clear and fresh air on a morning’s ride, so many delightful people I’ve met when riding, that it’s hard to pick just one out of the bowl of cherries that life just is.  Don’t you think that’s enough text for this question?  I do.
